Delivering Energy Reduction Through Smarter Ventilation Control

As part of Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust’s ongoing commitment to reducing energy consumption across its estate, WISE Controls were appointed to carry out extensive validation and optimisation works on the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital and (CSSB) Liverpool Clinical Labs.

Our team undertook a full review and validation of 104 air handling units (AHUs) across the site. During this process, we identified multiple instances of failed equipment that were causing unnecessary energy waste and preventing the AHUs from effectively controlling the environments they served.

Through targeted rectification works, these issues were resolved and system reliability was restored. Alongside this, we reviewed and re-engineered the control strategies in place, implementing intelligent adjustments that ensured the AHUs could operate more efficiently while maintaining required comfort and performance levels.

The outcome was a significant reduction in wasted energy, improved system performance, and a more stable and sustainable internal environment — all without compromising patient care or staff comfort.

“WISE Controls worked with us to reduce energy on site and improve control. Phil and Mia are great, very dedicated and always trying to understand where improvements can be done, absolutely sustainability minded and very knowledgeable.”
